Rho Cancri

The "Rho Cancri" concept was a mix of ideas I was developing once, I even started a piece but the outcome wasn't satisfying me and I finally left it. 
Now I picked this concept up again with a different perspective and theme. For those who had been checking out facebook recently, you saw some sketches that had finally lead to the artwork you are viewing now! 

I've always had kind of interest in astronomy, and though that and female figures may not match up at first glance, if we add some zodiac stuff and a weird and creepy pet, everything starts to make sense. 
Erm, wait, it makes even less sense indeed...

But anyway I like the mystic look of the final piece, and moreover, I had some more ideas considering this piece is set into a specific topic which I've been digging into: the recent discovery of extrasolar planets through the universe. Ta-daah! The mystery is solved.

As published in Wikipedia, 55 Cancri, 55 Cnc or Rho¹ (greek letter ρ) Cancri is a binary star at around 41 lightyears away from Earth and located within the constellation of Cancer. The system consists in a Sun-like star called 55 Cnc A and a smaller red dwarf named 55 Cnc B. It's been confirmed that there are at least five extrasolar planets orbiting 55 Cnc A. As a curious fact, planet 55 Cnc e is thought to be partially made of diamond due to its high composition of carbon and the extremely high temperatures and pressure on the planet's core.
